DINGHY RACING – SUMMER RACE SERIES

So summer is gradually arriving (all be it in fits and starts) and we are proposing to try and run a race series at the Boat Club over 4 Sundays in May and June. The Sundays are:

Sunday May 11th

Sunday May 25th

Sunday June 8th

Sunday June 15th

Meeting time at the club will be from 1pm on each Sunday, with a race briefing at 1:30pm with the first race being started as soon as everyone is out on the water. The intention will be (weather dependent) to run 2 races each day, with 6 races counting towards the series - i.e. you can discard your 2 worst results, or if you can’t make one of the Sunday’s. Jim is busy searching through the club’s trophy cabinet to find a suitable one for the series winner, so plenty to play for!

The junior sailing for those in Toppers is taking place the same days and they will in all likelihood be joined in for the 2nd race each day, adding 5-6 boats.

We struggled with getting a critical mass of boats together on any given Sunday last year to organise any real races, so this is an attempt to try and focus the racing onto a few days, published in advance that you can get in the diary. If it proves popular we will run another series at the back end of the summer, once everyone has their summer holidays out of the way. The racing is intended to be light hearted and with an emphasis on getting everyone involved, so if you haven’t raced before, don’t worry, come down and give it a try, as there will be people around to help you with the basics. Starting to race can be one of the best ways to improve and sharpen up your technique.

See you on the water
