Gairloch Boat Club

Social and Awards Presentation

Added on 25 November 2016

Forty members, including some new ones for next year, enjoyed an evening of great food and musical entertainment, along with lots of Awards, some more sailing-related than others!
There was great music from the 4 young fiddlers, Flowerdale Fog, Iain Robin on Pipes, Andy Brooks and Martin Rowe.
First of all, thank you to Martin for manning the Bar this evening.
Thanks also to Carol Turnbull and Jane Rowe & the Golf Club for letting us use the Club House.
The Buffet was fantastic, thanks to everyone for providing such a great spread. Special thanks to Carol, Dyllis and Jean for all their organising and clearing up afterwards.
Thanks to the support of everyone involved in the Club for what they do throughout the year to promote all water-based activities.
Thanks to the Families for the support given to youngsters.
Thanks to the RYA Senior Instructors, Rob Bashford and Sophie Faulkner for the courses they ran.

As usual, it’s been a mixed year for all the Sailors and Rowers; either too much wind or too little.

Charity Big Boat Event – June. 6 Boats took part. The first day saw very light winds, which some were able to take advantage of. Then the Sunday saw much better winds – again one of the smaller boats, Anderson Affair, sailed magnificently to give the other competitors a scare. However, Andy Brooks in Volja prevailed & lifted the Trophy – again! Thanks to The Shieling for hosting the Saturday night.

Challenge Regatta A big disappointment this year was having to cancel it. Potential sailors from Loch Carron and Loch Morlich came over anyway and we had a great day catching up.
Next year, we are looking at the possibility of holding it earlier in the year.
We already having Trophies for 2017 prepared as incentives for next year’s event.

Gairloch Coastal Rowing Club
The local skiff club continues to be an affiliate member of the GBC, which we are pleased about. We hope to build on this relationship next year.

Programme for 2017.
Early in the New Year we will be starting on the Programme for 2017.
If you have any ideas for Courses or Events, we would love to hear from you.
We hope to run various Juniors and Adults Courses.
Also, capital expenditure is likely to be required, e.g. electrical work on the Club House, re-tubing our old RIB, etc.

The Artic Convoy group has promised to sponsor some Junior Sailing next year.

Duke of Edinburgh Scheme & Air Training Corps. We hope to develop further links with local youth organisations.

Local Support    As usual, this Club could not exist without the fantastic support and help it gets from so many people involved. Gary keeps an eye on the Boat Park, Bob is always doing work on various things, then there are grass cutters, Jane Macintyre on the Club’s Website and FB Page, Peter MacDonald & the help he gets from local fishermen, Martin the Treasurer, Dave & Anne at the Shop at the Pier, Dave & Ronnie at Treasure Chest and Lennie, Harbour Master.

We welcomed our very own      MISS GBC 2016, Dyllis MacDonald, to present the Awards.
